On February 17, 2009, all full-power broadcast TV stations in the US will stop broadcasting on analog airwaves and begin broadcasting only in digital. Digital broadcasting will allow stations to offer improved picture and sound quality and additional channels.

The problem? If your television is not equipped to receive digital signals, and you're not connected to cable or satellite TV, you will not be able to receive a broadcast signal after February 16, 2009.

If you're not buying a new TV, you will need a converter box to receive the digital signal. The government has established a coupon program to help persons with older television sets buy converter boxes. Households can get up to two coupons.

Go to https://www.dtv2009.gov to obtain a coupon.

Celebrate the holidays

with

Very Merry Library!

Who Can Participate?

Many people like to donate books to their favorite library as

an appreciation for services throughout the year or in honor

or memory of a loved one. The Guthrie Public Library assists in

this effort by providing a current list of desired titles to be

purchased.

How Does It Work?

Those wishing to donate a specific book (or two or more?…)

may check out the list of titles at the front desk. Books may

be purchased at your favorite store and delivered to the library,

or a donation for the amount listed as the library’s cost can

be presented for a tax deductible donation. (Checks can be

made out to Friends of the Guthrie Public Library.)

Is There a Deadline?

The Guthrie Public Library accepts donations year-round, but

those participating in Very Merry Library can take advantage

of the library’s special discounted price and still receive a

custom book plate acknowledging each gift to the library.

ProQuest has partnered with MyFamily.com to create Ancestry® Library Edition, one of the most important genealogical collections available today. It has unparalleled coverage of the United States and the United Kingdom, including census, vital, church, court, and immigration records, as well as record collections from Canada and other areas.

The Ancestry Library Edition collection has approximately 4,000 databases including key collections such as U.S. Federal Census images and indexes from 1790 to 1930; the Map Center containing more than 1,000 historical maps; American Genealogical Biographical Index (over 200 volumes); Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage (over 150 volumes); The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England, 1620-1630; Social Security Death Index (updated monthly); WWI Draft Registration Cards; Federal Slave Narratives; and a strong Civil War collection. HeritageQuest Online™ combines digital, searchable images of U.S. federal census records with the digitized version of the popular UMI® Genealogy & Local History collection and other valuable content. This online database is an essential collection of unique material for both genealogical and historical researchers, with coverage dating back to the late 1700s. Researchers can use HeritageQuest Online to find their ancestors, trace their paths across America, and learn what life was like in the areas where they settled.

HeritageQuest Online includes all of the images, and extensive indexing, from the 1790 - 1930 U.S. federal censuses. It offers more than 20,000 book titles, including nearly 8,000 family histories and over 12,000 local histories. Additionally, there are more than 250 primary-source documents such as tax lists, city directories, probate records, and more.
